Raingear

Parka

One of the many things you must face when you are camping or backing is the weather. Backpacking is really fine when the sun is out and the weather is fine but when it rains it can be oh so miserable. There are ways to cope with the rain.

Thankfully today we have wonderful raingear that keep moisture out and let perspiration out. In the old days all we had was rain slickers and ponchos that were made from rubber and kept the rain out all right but the perspiration that came from your body left you soaked none the less. This was very poor raingear as opposed to today.raingear

With the invention of Gore-tex, polypropylene and other modern fabrics all the backpackers of the world rejoiced in their tents at the end of the day! With this and the attention to light weight products the backpacking world was turned upside down and raingear was led into a new dimension.

With these fabrics you can work hard and sweat, but the sweat evaporates through the fabric to be released and the rain is kept out, along with the wind which can rob you of heat and strength as well.First you need good raingear to cover your body, head to toe. Start with a parka.

A parka for backpacking is made from modern materials first of all, has a hood, zippers (including underarm zippers) and comes in varying weights for different seasons. If you are going to the snow, the parka will of course be heavier than if you are hiking in the summertime and are only worried about the occasional shower.
Many people (myself included) have several parkas for various conditions.
